Team Augmentation
Definition
Team augmentation (also called staff augmentation) is an outsourcing model where external developers integrate directly into your existing team. They follow your processes, use your tools, and work your hours — while the service provider handles hiring, onboarding, payroll, and HR.
In Detail
Unlike project-based outsourcing, team augmentation gives you full control over the development process. You manage priorities and daily tasks; the augmentation partner ensures you have access to qualified engineers when you need them. This model is especially popular among DACH enterprises facing talent shortages in specialised areas like cloud engineering, AI/ML, or mobile development.
Business Use Case
A Vienna-based fintech company needed to scale from 4 to 12 developers in 6 weeks to meet a regulatory deadline. Through team augmentation with Dev House Austria, they onboarded 8 senior engineers who integrated into their existing Jira/Confluence workflow within days. The team delivered on schedule, and 5 of the augmented engineers remain on the project 18 months later.
